An exit sign is a device in a public facility (such as a building, airplane or boat) that displays EXIT. BC Fire code requires exit signs be permanently lit. Its purpose is guiding people to the closest exit in case of fire or other emergency.
Since November, 2004 Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations require that all internally-lighted exit signs manufactured consume no more than five watts per word (Exit). At present, this means that most qualified signs use LED technology. LED exit signs consume between one and five watts. With notable energy savings and long life, LED exit signs benefit the environment.
The lasting power of LEDs reduces costs of operating by way of reduced energy consumption, having to replace typical incandescent bulbs and related labour costs.
Not all LED products offer equal performance. Exit signs using the newest LED technology start out brighter and maintain their brightness longer than those using older technologies. Use products that use aluminum, indium, gallium and phosphorus LEDs, referred to in the trade as AlInGaP. Consider upgrading your existing light with a retrofit kit to reduce waste while you save energy. Speak with our Sales Associate today.
